Axelle Gosse is a Belgian artist whose practice explores the possibilities of colour, texture and movement through an unexpected material: rope. After more than twenty-five years working as an interior designer, Gosse turned fully toward art, bringing with her a highly developed sensitivity to colour, materials and space.
Working between painting, sculpture and textile, Gosse transforms rope into expressive lines that move across the canvas. Each strand is carefully arranged by hand, creating layered compositions that appear at once tactile and painterly. Rather than depicting a landscape or natural form literally, she allows colour, rhythm and gesture to evoke a sense of place, movement and emotion.
Travel and nature are central to Gosse’s visual language. Experiences across Latin America, Africa and India, together with her fascination with organic forms, landscapes and vegetation, inform works that feel both contemporary and deeply connected to the natural world. Her compositions are intuitive and spontaneous, with the movement of the rope becoming an extension of the artist’s own gesture.
Gosse’s works occupy a distinctive space between disciplines, challenging the traditional boundaries of painting while remaining rooted in the fundamental language of line, colour and composition. Her practice invites the viewer to experience the work not only visually, but also through its sense of rhythm, texture and physical presence.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, including in Brussels, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Marrakech, Seattle and San Francisco, as well as at international art fairs.
